Yesterday, after a trip to IKEA (where we bought two new dressers - one to be used as such, and one to be used as a bar - and picked out our new sofa, which unfortunately was out of stock) I threw the pear crisp that I had previously assembled into the oven.
It was awesome. I pretty much followed Deb’s recipe at the smitten kitchen, however butter estimates were probably way off (we don’t have 1/2 cup sticks of butter here!), i used vanilla extract instead of vanilla bean, and the liquor was left out of the equation as they didn’t have any at the two grocery stores that I hit, and I really didn’t want to go to a third (although they likely would have had it). It also gave me an excuse to try out my new hand blender / food processor, which is also awesome. And it was a good trial run of the crisp I’m planning on making for our 4th of July / house warming party.
I’d initially planned on making spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, but that plan got derailed when Jeff asked me to come along to IKEA, and we ultimately ate some Swedish meatballs.
Through the making of the crisp, it was also discovered that the IKEA springform pan I had previously purchased is not as water tight as it needs to be and now the bottom of the oven has a bunch of burnt on sugary syrup.
