Yesterday I broke my left fifth metatarsal while on an airplane. According to my orthopedist, I have what is known as a Jone’s Break, meaning it’s broken in a part of the foot that is doesn’t get much blood supply and is prone to getting a nonunion fracture meaning that the bone never regrows.
Essentially for me this injury means that I am unable to put weight on my foot for 12 weeks, basically killing my summer. I’m in pain and I’m pissed off at this turn of events, but at least I hadn’t bought a new bike yet.
The majority of the past day (since my arrival in Boston) has been spent in doctor’s offices, and it now appears that I’ll be spending the week on the sofa before returning to Berlin (with Sarah!) on Sunday night. Some vacation, right? At least I have Vicodin.
